What's happening in the gluefactory.. Let's prevent WW3!

Hi,  Big Grin

Like many out there I feel the degradation of my society around me. It scares and saddens me. Confused

Forums are big and the most serious part of the possibility for a man to do an effective effort to keep an whole society that are threatening to split up, together.  🌴

This is a complex tas as the fault lines often goes not only by classes of people and opinions but also very much by the linguistic borders.
Reasonings that emerges have because of technical issues hard to reverberate organically beyond limited identities which causes them to solidify rather than desolve.

Today, thanks to the emerging large language models and  the AI services that have emerged during the last year it is finally possible to run an truly multi-linguistic communication platform.

The possibility is only hampered by the software that ties it all together.. The "Forum Software" and it's plugins. The free services is there as well as good logarithms and code that is only getting better fast. what is needed is the localized glue.

So here I stand in the gluefactory and making my case!

Pointing on the amount of dead horses.. pig ears and tails..  👈️

My suggestion is that we put our efforts together and create a plugin that can do this for us.

A really awesome plugin that can solve this problem ones for all. It is inevitable, and I would migrate and more for having this possibility. As I am sure would many other..

As I believe in that digital structures should serve and wrap around human needs and support intuitive ways to do stuff and ofc serve nature and not the other way around, I start with how I see the experience from the users perspective.

Feel free to improve on my vision.

I sign up, login and are greeted with an informational prompt that tell me that this forum is proudly multilingual in the deep sense that every post is automatically translated to this and this and this languages after it's users choice.

To make this possible without infringe with additional cost on the kind host of this excellent forum, this is done by use of individual users own accounts on the free translation services. A collaborative effort.

The user is questioned if the user are interested to participate and have it's post be multilingual?
If the user is interested they click on a link and are presented with a in-house form that on their behalf and with their consent comfortably register with an random name and an disposable email and then automatically fetch and put in to a register an/their api key.

The same could by the way be done with free "talk to text" services. It could be an additional option
Then this API keys are used as in a pool to get translations from the services.

The user are informed about this and can choose to use his own mail and have "their" Api key only to be used for them.

When the user is posting there is in the menu a drop-down that show options to either deselect some languages if you have it sett so in your settings that you want your post to be translated to all languages or other way around bor a combo.. all per user settings.

After post is done and posted, the other languages you have set in your setting that you can proofread your self, pop up one after the others for proof reading.
The languages that you can't proof read are flagged as needing proofreading and go to a pool.

The proofreading UI is like the normal interface I use here now but with the extra feature that the original post is shown in an read only pane below. Or by the side if it is set so in the user settings or changed in the dropdown menu. Mobile friendly and so.

The lower original text are line by line locked to the text that is being proofread/edited, but it's relative position can be shifted by dragging it up or down with sidebars or touch. When the user is ready they just click the button [ready].
A "proofread by:<user> is attached to the post that then goes online in it's proofed state.

The user shall also be able to set an alowance for a selected group of users that they trust to be able to approve on their translation as well shall the user be able to send a pm notification to a friend or group that something have arrived in their "private" pool.

This group can edit already made proofread posts.  Users in commons should also via the language choice be able at anytime compare two languages at a time of a post and also be able to flag to the original poster that they would like to improve their translated post.

In essence the plugin shall encourage an culture of participation and social interaction around translation and improvement of the expression of intent. An dropdown word translation field above is good to help as well as the ability to "bookmark"/collect them word and expressions  translations one find in an personal word/frase list.

To encourage lazy users they can choose to be in a "translation" exchange with quota going on. Angry Undecided Shy

There should OFC be an honor badge and with quantity and quality score for good and accurate upvoted proofreades to flash with.
There also need to be an Draft folder for where post they assign to them self can reside as marked "booked".
If there is no activity on the proofreading for a set amount of time it goes back to the pool.

Post that are not proofread yet have a red banner on the top that say: translated by some dead dumb machine, don't trust this text if it seam wierd or are upsetting or promise something that seam to be too good to be true !! : Proofread against the closest to your preferred in rank language? And a [yes] button. And a [put in my pool] button.

Users that have to much in their pools compared to how fast their average turnaround time are, is prevented from building a to large backlog for them self.

To provide simple emotional reward some kind of random, from a pool, "Arn't you a good boy" Smile Heart Sleepy notifications pop up at times when the plugin notice that the user compared to him self have edited much.

Eventually if an agreement could be made with the translation service provider the human edited posts could be provided to the service provider as a payment for the service for them to be used for training the model.

There should also be in place an API translation layer so that many different provider can be used as well as self run models for private focused forums.  Cool

An "set up instruction"/juniper notebook for a langchain could be provided by the plugin maintainers.

The data of an forum, could be very well used to train an forum owned/run AI for adjusting weights concerning the topics of the particular  forum, Reading attached papers, links, blog-posts and so on.

So that was about it!

Now don't tell me about how hard this is and how impossible. I's not.
And it's not interesting.

The thing that should be in focus is how immensely valuable this would be for our societies in the ongoing battle to further communication over barriers. How much potential violence it could prevent.
There is many resources and implementations available already. Maybe even prevent a worldwar!! The earth!! In essence save your and your loved ones lives!!   Angel Heart

Dang!

Obsidian have an really impressive translation plugin that have the most what is needed [obsidian-translate](https://github.com/Fevol/obsidian-translate

Obsidian is electron so this plugin is probably written in html and Javascript mostly maybe, I guess, so it should be fairly useful as a carcass for this project.

Implementations using this free services pop up everywhere right now.

I think it is a very good idea for MyBB to do this..  First!

It will draw attention to this software and bring some users in to the fold.

Undoubtedly the plugin will be forked for all other forum softwares very fast so it would even be a good idea to harvest the honor and fame to do this for them from the beginning.

Please mail me at thehunkeringhunn@protonmail.com if you are interested to use me in any capacity for this project. I'm not a programmer per see but a person that work more as an survivor specialist with grassroots politic ambitions for a future kind of guy.

But this is one of my most longstanding NEEDS since the dawn of time.. ie 1995.. Blush

All this with love and care from the frozen hell in the north Finland Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
